It’s unfortunate, but permanent teeth can be lost through accidents, tooth decay, gum diseases, and even birth defects. Missing teeth directly affects your self confidence and even how you act in places like your job… even on the phone.

But one area of dentistry that’s getting better and better is the realm of dental implants. These are “fake” teeth that get screwed into place and appear like there was never an issue to begin with. This is permanent in nature and these teeth are usually made of safe metal alloys for your mouth.

The process involves drilling a hole in the place where the tooth is going to be fastened. Sounds painful, but they obviously make sure that you are out for the procedure. The screw that will hold the tooth in place is put in first and then covered with a cap to make sure it’s secure.

The mouth then has some time to adapt to the new object in the mouth and make sure that the rest of the teeth are not pushed out of place. After a few months the dentist will remove the cover and place a temporary crown in place. After you mouth as accepted and your gums have grown with the crown… the temporary crown will be replace with a permanent crown.

It’s really important that the patient goes for more regular visits for some time after the implant to make sure that everything else in the mouth does not get knocked out of alignment with the new implant.
